Beautiful Things

23 December 2010

These are some beautiful things I saw a Barnes & Noble today that I thought were worth sharing. Enjoy me judging books by their covers:

I really like this sketchy style that has been big with journals lately. I like more realistic sketchiness more than this, though.

I WISH I could buy this. It’s pretty much awesome.

Also, I absolutely love all of Barnes & Noble’s classics that are designed like this. I was going to buy the Jules Verne compilation today, but they didn’t have it in stock.

Aside from having a horrible title (“Aurorarama”) this book looks awesome. I literally only picked it up because the spine’s awesome design caught my eye.

This is the inner cover of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales compilation from the fancy B&N classics. I want to die.

I love these Shakespeare publications. None of them are actually white, but slightly off-white to match the color of the letters. It’s great.

Another beautifully laid out Shakespeare publication.

I bought this tea today with a giftcard I received for Christmas. I’ve always wanted to get one of these teas because the tins are amazing. Also, it smells SO GOOD.

Florida

29 June 2010

Okay, so maybe I lied in my last post about posting anything about the third day in California. If you want to see what I did, I posted pictures on facebook of the amazing nature we saw.

Anyway, now I am in Florida until July 7th, and I miss people. I’m reading books a lot though!

The End.

Observations

14 May 2010

My knowledge of how much knowledge that exists to know is growing much faster than the minuscule amount of knowledge I actually know. It’s daunting.

Reputations are odd things to have when you are changing as a person.

You’d think that with responsibility would come a higher liklihood of getting help with your problems when you need it, but I can promise you that’s not the case.

I value people who don’t try to hide who they really are very highly.

The funny thing is, I feel more and more like I am doing exactly the opposite.

Quite honestly, there are a number of social conventions that I don’t see the point of. Not to sound pretentious, but often I will just pretend that it bothers me to drink after someone, for example, just so that people I don’t know very well won’t be bothered. When, in reality, it doesn’t bother me at all.

I believe in absolute truth, but I don’t believe that man can be sure of what is absolute truth unless it is through divine revelation. Otherwise it’s just man’s fallen nature breathed into God’s word. Is this heresy? It doesn’t make sense to me that it could be any other way.

I try to be myself at all times, if that makes sense, because I want everyone else to be themselves at all times, but I think I usually just come off as over the top.

Humility is a huge paradox. It confuses me to no end.

What do you think about these thoughts? I really, truly want to know.

I just finished this video for a class, please give it a watch!

Whaddya think?

General Things

10 March 2010

The 33Miles concert was better than I expected. They definitely sounded better in person. (aka less rascal flatts-ish) also, the guitarist was amazing. Afterwards he asked Trey and I what city we were in. haha. I was like, Nathan will so be like this guy…

<= I added an art page over on the left sidebar, so yeah!

I’m going to Austin this weekend to visit a family friend. Also, I’ll be visiting the Art Institute there, so that should be really interesting!

Not being on facebook is leaving a lot of time to read. (also, I have much less of an excuse to not do homework. haha.) I’m actively reading: The Church Can Change the World by Jimmy Siebert, Freedom of Simplicity by Richard J. Foster, Reflections on the Psalms by C.S. Lewis, and Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers by Shane Claiborne.

I’ve been listening to Stockholm Syndrome some more, what a crazy album! I like it though. There’s some good stuff in there.

I signed up for next quarter’s classes last week. (I’ll be a sophomore!!) They are tentatively:
Monday from 8a -12p: Form and Space
Tuesday from 1p – 5p: Digital Illustration II (which is basically the Adobe Illustrator class)
Wednesday 8a – 12p: Creative Writing (Hopefully this will be an interesting class!)
Thursday 6p – 10p: Layout I

I’m actually glad for the early classes, since this quarter will carry over into summer.

Long Week

20 February 2010

Hello all! My week has been ridiculously long. I had three days in a row where I had to wake up at 4am, be at work at 5, and then work until an hour into the class I had that day, which means I was late a lot. Though I definitely enjoy my job. I miss Oklahoma! It was a great trip and I hadn’t seen Taylor and Jon in so long!

Playing jh do work last night was a lot of fun. I miss playing so often with a full band.

Dinner with some great friends tonight.

Bye!

I Am…

Tolerance

20 August 2009

Here’s a short post for you. Some interesting things that have coincided.

I’m reading this Ted Dekker book (Sinner) about the future where tolerance has made religion basically a secret.
On Monday in my College 101 class we talked about the goodness of tolerance. yay!
I was so conflicted!
How do I tell these people “Christ is the only way!” in a way that is loving? (And not “shoving down their throats”-ish.) That is a very popular stereotype of Christians.
I’m sure Driscoll or someone like that will tell me it doesn’t matter when their souls are on the line, but I’m certain I can do this in a non-rude (and I say ‘rude’ loosely) way.
Oh the dabates that topics like these cause.

Things I Learned Today:

17 August 2009

starfruitA Starfruit

Riding a bike for a long distance is painful when you don’t do it for a month.

Metal dog food can lids are can be very dangerous.
My house has four different kinds of medical wound cleaner. My dad was unaware of that fact.
Pizza Fusion is too expensive for too little not-good-enough food. Sorry Eric, I just don’t see the benefit.
Zac Efron is a better actor than Matthew Perry. (via 17 Again)
Elise Rojo is a very good singer!
Macs do not have the capability of putting folders together at the top of a list of files. (but that negative is WAY outweighed by numerous positives.
How to eat a Starfruit, and that they smell like roses; but taste like a cross between a lemon and an apple.
The order in which to read a whole bunch of Ted Dekker’s novels.
